My Girlfriend 'Sally'
'We'll come back for you', those were there last words my parents last words before they left me left me at Lakeside kids orphanage
the place where I've been since I was almost 5 the place where I met sally
sally has a disability she is mentally and physically handicapped and is deaf in her right ear
But despite all her problems and despite the teasing from everyone she is my bestfriend
I have no other friends here everyone thinks im strange because I spend all my time with sally. I don't care what they think, sally is my best friend and nothing will change that ever well until today. Today sally got sick. They diagnosed her with cancer and because the doctors can't help her,
she will just have to die a little at a time or so the doctor says.
"I can't lose sally", I say over and over in my mind, "she is my only friend." I cried myself to sleep that night thinking how life would be without sally there with me.
For weeks it went on like this, night after night, crying myself to sleep watching sally get steadily worse it was just to painful for me to watch but what was more painful is what happened the next morning - June 5,1972.
The day I'll never forget the day that I found out sally had passed away just that morning I cried all morning and finally realized what my true purpose in live was it was to find a cure for cancer so that no child would have to go thru what sally went thru those long three weeks.
I just knew that was my purpose in life I just knew it well years went by long hard years without sally I studied everyday of the week studying everything from medicines to cancer I would study the same books for hours until I had completly memorized every single book there was in that library
I finally came to the conclusion it was June 7, 1986 I figured out the solution to the medicine
it was called kemotherape, something that could make a person sick but could possibly make them better by this time I was in my second year of college
I got awarded a medal for my work and was honored scientist of the year but,
when it was all over I told reporters that I woundn't have got this far if not for my bestfriend a girl named sally.
